Recently, I compared the experience of writing and imagining to that of entering a familiar place, yet still groping for the lights’ switch. And that’s despite years spent reading and looking at text in general – text, that makes sense, but doesn’t always paint the proverbial picture. And I know that this is mostly a limitation on my par. I grew accustomed to audio/visuals, constantly striving for the highest fidelity, leaving little for my mind to fill in.

Daydreaming is something mostly frowned upon, yet its one of the few mechanisms that let our brains play. With a 9 to 6 job, where everything is of top priority, save for what truly matters to an individual; there’s little space outside of lunch-time where a person could do seemingly nothing, but actually allow themselves the luxury of processing it all, all of the inputs we seldom have control over in services, the outputs we get trained and drilled on day in and out, the bit of writing we were promising ourselves we’d sit and do, but never get to it because of.. reasons. Hand eagerly reaching out for the remote control, or the phone app and that sweet, but ultimately time-wasting ‘just one more episode’ fix; not to mention my constant downloading of games and never actually making time to playing them.

Ultimately, I’ve been there, is what I’m trying to convey with this short writ. We’ve all been there, and still are, at the bus stop, anxiously waiting our next ride to somewhere other than here. And it will only take a little while, but oh, it actually takes so much more out of us.
